The Global Economic Network aims for an eco-social model for the global economy

Prince Hassan from Jordan – former president of the Club of Rome

Prince Hassan from Jordan – former president of the Club of Rome – worked actively on the Philosophy an Objectives Paper of the Global Economic Network. Its main points are:

With the Global Economic Network, a global organization from the sphere of economics is established to address actual challenges in a comprehensive way. It intends to channel a variety of economic expertise on the solution of our problems. This expertise is, however, based on the described stance of a global cultural and civilization-based approach that puts basic global ethic´s considerations first, and intelligently combines these with the best results of intellectual efforts from other areas of society. The underlying premise of a global ethic is characteristic of the Global Economic Network, as is its relation to the work of the Club of Rome, the Earth Charter Movement, the Global Transformation Initiative, the Initiative for the Global Commons and similar movements. Consequently, it aims at an eco-social model for the global economy, understood as an alternative to purely free market based philosophies. This alternative has found increased interest after the disastrous developments in the world financial markets with its market fundamentalistic philosophy.

The key issue the Global Economic Network deals with is the management of globalization. This necessitates, among other things, the establishment of a coherent rule-based framework at the global level, the implementation of a highly productive global economic order, co-financing of development, the encouragement of cultural diversity and the potential of all people, new investment into the protection of the global climate, ensuring a fair distribution of resources, and the pursuit of the idea of sustainable development, keeping in mind the living circumstances of future generations.
